A new take on wedding cakes
I saw this idea for a wedding ‘cheese’ in a bridal magazine a while back. While cutting the cheese is a bit different than cutting the cake, I do think it is a wonderful alternative to the traditional wedding cake. We have decided to go this route and we will be cutting and serving the cheese directly after the ceremony for the guests to snack on while we have some photos taken. Three types of cheese rounds (in our colours, of course!), will be stacked on top of each other and decorated with flowers and rafia. With the cheese we will be serving crackers, fruit and preserves, as well as a nice red wine to compliment the cheese. Here are some pictures of how you can dress up a cheese!

If you still prefer a sweet confectionary cake, one of the following might be an option:
Croquembouche
Literally meaning “Crack in one’s mouth” a croquembouche is a traditional French wedding cake consisting of puff choux pastry filled with a vanilla creme patissiere, held together with a delicious cobweb of caramel. Delicious with coffee or wonderful as a dessert.
Individual Cakes
The options here are only as limited as your imagination! Go for cupcakes stacked in a tier, petit fours arranged on a beautiful cake stand or have individual cups of moulded chocolate filled with decadent chocolate mousse!
Chocolate Fountains
For the bride that likes her guests to interact with their food and the other guests, this is a good option! Make sure you have plenty of fresh fruit for dipping, and add some marsmallows for the sweet toothed among your guests. These days the chocolate can even be coloured to fit with your theme!
So there you have it! No need for you to have a fruit cake that no one will eat; serve your wedding cake (whether cupcakes or a chocolate fountain) as desert and all your guests will swoon!!!

I have seen the cake made of cheese before and I thought it was cute for a wedding with a couple who loves cheese! This wouldn't have to replace the traditional wedding cake if the couple didn't want to but it could be put out for the cocktail hour with appetizers. I think they are great!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely and gorgeous cake for weddings. Thank you so much for sharing it.
